Word by Word
Word by Word is a small exhibition of art from the 1960s to the present day that explores the figurative, abstract, and conceptual artistic registers, illustrating how words can become autonomous forms, objects, and eventually stories. Most of the artists in the exhibition attempted to use words as delivered messages to be interpreted or just received by the viewer. Their words can be seen as characters in the short play performed by the exhibition.
This illustrated catalog, which accompanies the exhibition, includes a foreword by Francesco Bonami, an excerpt of Ivan Illivich's 1996 book 'In the Vineyard of the Text: A Commentary to Hugh's Didascalicon', an artwork list, with details and images, and installation views of the exhibition in London.
