On 2 March, Luxembourg + Co., London, celebrated the opening of Jannis Kounellis: To the Sound of Pictures with a live performance programme activating key works in the exhibition.
Jannis Kounellis’ Untitled (1971), featuring a fragment from Johann Sebastian Bach’s St John Passion, was performed by Emily Henderson (cello). This was followed by Da inventare sul posto (1972), incorporating a passage from Igor Stravinsky’s Pulcinella, interpreted by Hugo Max (violin) and Kate Hester (dance), bringing the painting’s musical notation to life through sound and movement.
The evening concluded with Elaine Mitchener (voice) performing No! (2021) by Christian Marclay, a graphic score composed from comic book fragments depicting vocal expression and gesture.
